If you think of a dental emergency, then you might imagine someone with a severe toothache or a chip in their tooth. These are some common situations, but there are many more out there! Dentists are well-equipped to handle them, but there has been the odd scenario that may leave you shocked. Here are three stories from other dental practices of their strangest urgent appointments.
Pass the Tissues, Please
There was a man who came to his dental office because he wasn’t feeling very well. Wanting to give him relief right away, his dentist got to work doing the standard routine. They started with an oral assessment, but once the man opened his mouth, one of the worst mouth infections in oral history revealed itself.
Apparently, the patient had a hole in his palate and used tissues to stuff it. He proudly explained how he would do this and change it out weekly. However, wet tissue and bacteria don’t make a good combination.
The Betrayal of Man’s Best Friend
A woman once called her dentist because her dental crown fell out. This is the right thing to do, so she got scheduled and had it reattached in no time! But once everything was taken care of, she then told the team a little more about what had happened.
Her restoration actually came out a few days prior, and she put it on a counter. It then fell to the ground, and her curious pup came by and swallowed it! So, she had to wait a bit until nature called to retrieve it.
Garden On-The-Go
One time, a patient hurried to their dentist because of a toothache they had. This situation is unsurprising and routine, so their dentist started to do an assessment to see the cause of the problem. A root canal seemed to be the best course of action, so they started the procedure to relieve the discomfort.
However, as the team was cleaning out the patient’s grin, something started to peek out. They got a closer look and found a tiny plant sprouting out of the cavity. It turned out to be tomato seeds that were lodged deep in the gums.
Hopefully, you don’t experience any of these strange emergencies yourself! To avoid them and more common situations, continue doing great at your oral hygiene and stick to your regular checkups and cleanings to keep your smile strong.
